Basics of the Rosary

What is the rosary?

The rosary is a string or chain comprised of 60 beads, and a crucifix. On each bead, one recites a prayer unique to that particular bead. Rosary beads can be made of many different materials, including pearls, crystal, marble, glass, wood, and even rose petals, which can be of any shape and size.

How do you Pray the Rosary?

The entire rosary consists of 20 decades. Typically one recites 5 decades at a time, which are devoted to a particular set of mysteries. Below is a diagram, which lays out the specific prayers that are to be said on each bead.
